Steven Wilson's sixth album is an exploration of the human mind in times of the Internet and the ultramodern consumers of the present. While dealing with the problems of post-truth and fake news at “To The Bone” (2017), Wilson takes the listeners on “The Future Bites” into a world of 21st century addictions. It is a place where the impact of emerging technologies on our lives is constantly and quite publicly experimented.
Despite issues such as out-of-control shopping addiction, manipulative social media, or the loss of individuality, “The Future Bites” is not so much the dark vision of a rising dystopia than a curious analysis of the conditions in the here and now.
“Personal Shopper” the first track is ten minutes long, reminiscent of Moroder, electronic sounds - alienated by human influence (King Ghost), spherical acoustic sounds (12 Things I forgot) or bass-driven Krautrock grooves (followers) combine with dripping, gloomy funk to Wilson's perhaps the most consistent work. The album was recorded in London and co-produced by David Kosten (Bat For Lashes, Everything Everything) and Steven Wilson.
The Future Bites blu-ray audio is region-free and comes with a slipcase.
